The first guest on Meghan Markle’s new podcast, which launched on Spotify on Tuesday afternoon, is tennis champion, Serena Williams. Serena is Meghan’s close friend who also attended her wedding.
The first episode’s executive producer, Meghan, spoke to Williams about the unfair treatment women get when they are referred to as “ambitious.” The duo also talked about how this affects the rest of their life.

In their conversation, Meghan and Serena discussed ambition and how it is a bad, horrible word when it comes to women.
During one of their conversations, they brought up the topic of maintaining a composed attitude in public while dealing with personal difficulties.

Markle reflected on the time in 2019 when she and Prince Harry were on a trip to South Africa. Soon after arriving, they left four and a half months old, Archie with the staff so they could attend a formal meeting. Archie was getting ready for his nap. Soon after they finished the official engagement, they were told that “there’s been a fire at the residence. What? There’s been a fire in the baby’s room. What?”
She continued that they raced back to the unit they were staying at and, “We get back, our amazing nanny, Lauren, [is] in floods of tears. She was supposed to put Archie down for his nap and she just said, ‘You know what? Let me just go get a snack downstairs’.”

Meghan also said that Archie’s nanny, Lauren, a Zimbabwean, liked to tie Archie on her back which Meghan loved. She said, “She was from Zimbabwe, and we loved that she would always tie him on her back with a mud cloth, and her instinct was like, ‘Let me just bring him with me before I put him down.”
Archie’s nanny, Lauren’s “instinct,” Meghan told, prevented Archie from being in the bedroom when the fire broke out. Meghan said, “In that amount of time that she went downstairs […] the heater in the nursery caught on fire. There was no smoke detector. Someone happened to just smell smoke, down the hallway, went in, fire extinguished. He was supposed to be sleeping in there.”
Following the incident, according to Meghan, everyone was frightened at the notion of what had just occurred. She also added that it was challenging to be expected to continue with the rest of the day’s commitments as usual.
“Everyone’s in tears, everyone’s shaken,” she narrates. “And what do we have to do? Go out and do another official engagement?”
