What is the aim of Earthshot prize Ceremony Boston?
Five winners get the Earthshot Prize each year in recognition of their environmental achievements. It was given out for the first time in 2021 and will continue every year through 2030.
The Earthshot Prize is an international environmental award that was inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s “Moonshot” and aims to find and scale the greatest ideas to help in the repair of our world during this crucial decade.
In 1962, Kennedy presented a great challenge to the nation at Rice University: put a man on the moon within ten years and return him or her safely to Earth. The first two humans to set foot on the moon were successfully landed by Apollo 11 in July 1969.
Ambassador Caroline Kennedy said, “There is no more important Moonshot today than repairing the planet and no better place to harness the Moonshot spirit than the City of Boston.”
A gift of £1 million is given to each winner to support their ongoing environmental initiatives. The five categories—’the restoration and protection of nature’, ‘ocean revival’, ‘air cleanliness’, ‘waste-free living’, and lastly ‘climate action’—were motivated by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
David Attenborough and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, introduced the Earthshot Prize in 2020. The Earthshot Prize Council, which contains Prince William and Attenborough, chooses the winners.
What will happen at this year’s Earthshot Prize Ceremony Boston?
Michael R. Bloomberg, who has pledged to support the scaling and replication of the best solutions to global problems presented at The Earthshot Prize, will also join William at the conference.
Mr. Bloomberg serves as the global advisor to The Earthshot Prize ceremony Boston prizewinners. Every year five winners are announced beginning in October 2020 and running through 2030.
Mr. Bloomberg and Prince William will honour the finalists and winners of the first-ever Earthshot Prize award ceremony conducted in October 2021 in London during the summit, which is co-hosted by the Prize and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
In a video posted to Twitter, William, who founded the global environment awards in October 2020, stated: “In 2022, we’re back and bringing Earthshot to the USA where we’ll award the next five winners of the Prize.”
