Archie Battersbee was an innocent 12 year old young boy born in Southend, Essex, England. He was found unconscious by his mother on April 7th, 2022. His mother Hollie Dance revealed that a ligature was found over his head.
She was shocked to see him unconscious and did his CPR at home. She then called an ambulance and took him to Southend University Hospital. Archie Battersbee had been in a cardiac arrest for over 40 minutes when his mother later arrived to the room. He suffered from cardiac arrest and went into coma due to lack of oxygen supply to the brain. The next day, he was shifted to the Royal London Hospital.
He was kept alive at the Royal London Hospital by life support through the help of medical professionals. His mother said he was a born fighter and active young boy. His life was intervened by high court which ordered to turn off his life support on April 7, as there was no chance of full recovery. The mother still fighting for his brave son said “He’s a just 12-year-old boy who’s been given a death sentence. I’m not going to give up, this is just the start of the fight.”
Archie Battersbee mother, Hollie Dance told that her kid had been into martial arts and gymnastics. He was also inclined towards Christianity just two years ago. He was impressed by watching his favorite players praying before the fights.
Hollie Dance said that it was her gut instinct that his heart was beating and he was still alive.
His life support was turned off on 6 August 2022 under legal orders from the court.
Archie Battersbee had been taking part in the viral tiktok challenge which probably took his life. His mother revealed that he might have risked his life in the “blackout challenge”. She found a ligature over his head which suffocated him and he immediately got a cardiac arrest.
Archie’s mother said “I am devastated and extremely disappointed by the judge’s ruling after weeks of fighting a legal battle with my little boy’s bedside.”
According to the Judge, Archie had been died on the day of his MRI scan but his parents pledged an appeal for his case. He was granted life support throughout. His parents kept on fighting the battle for his life but eventually the case was closed by the court.

She also said that parents must have a close look on their children and their social activities. She is horrified by the incident that she had to go through for the sake of her young boy. The social trends are risking the lives of children. Such as blackout challenge encourages people to take part in it and hold their breath. The challenge is to continue it until the oxygen supply is lacking and they pass out. The parents have also sued Tiktok for this dangerous and life-threatening challenge.
