Prince Charles attended the glamorous opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games 2022 in absence of Queen Elizabeth, the monarch. The historic event took place in Birmingham 2022 at the Alexander Stadium.
The Prince of Wales arrived at the Commonwealth Games 2022 ceremony in style driving his beloved Aston Martin. Charles was accompanied by his wife Camilla and their incredible entry to the ceremony was an excitement for the crowd.
Prince Charles, Majesty’s heir and first-in-line to the throne opened the historic ceremony on behalf of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, who is currently enjoying her summer getaway at Balmoral Castle.
The Opening ceremony was performed by Duran Duran. Prince Charles read the Majesty’s message where she praised the “family of nations” participating in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. She wished “each and every team and athlete all the success.”
Prince Charles shared that Commonwealth is a game of unity and it reminds us of connection as a family of nations. He welcomed everyone mentioning the importance of Commonwealth Games in “Birmingham” as it’s the pioneering city to host the games. Birmingham has rich diversity and unity of Commonwealth. He thanked everyone participating in the event and making the sporting event a success in recent times.
Prince of Wales, Charles said : “It now gives me the greatest pleasure to declare the 22nd Commonwealth Games open.”

Prince Charles also met with the competitor teams, support teams and volunteers at the Athletes Village, on his visit to Birmingham. Prince Edward, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth, also shared his message on Thursday. “The waiting is over,” Prince Edward said. Earl of Wessex will be attending number of sporting events on behalf of the royal family.
“To everyone involved in the production, whether behind the scenes or front-of-house: thank you, good luck and enjoy yourselves,” he said.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton will also be attending the upcoming events.
